Peoria Fire Department firefighters responded to a fire on the second floor of the Chateau Richelieu condo complex, off the corner of Knoxville and Glen avenue, on Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities said that when they arrived someone jumped from the balcony and fled the scene. They also confirmed that this person did in fact live there.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire within about 5 minutes. No one was injured or displaced, but residents were asked to stay outside until it was all clear of smoke.
"Some of the people are elderly so we had to provide some oxygen and some other relief for them because of the time away from their apartment. So we are clearing the smoke now. When it's cleared out we'll get them back into their apartments quickly," said Mike Lierle, Acting Battalion Chief at Peoria Fire Department.
