A new three-year labor contract with firefighters in the Marion Fire Department was approved on Monday night by the Marion City Council, which also gave the nod to the bidding process on the fire station addition and accepted the appointment of a new firefighter and promotions for others.
The firefighters' labor contract and the bidding process for the station addition were discussed in a 75-minute closed session.Following the closed-door session, the council, with Mayor Anthony Rinella, Commissioners Angelo Hightower, Doug Patton, Jim Webb and John Goss, voted 4-1 to accept the firefighters' contract, which is effective from May 1 this year to April 20, 2022. Hightower cast the "no" vote.
