Freeport Fire Chief Todd Allen is expected to resign to accept the same position in a Florida city.
Allen has informed city officials that he has verbally accepted an offer to become the next fire chief in DeLand, Florida. Allen is still working through the details of the new contract.
“My experience here in Freeport has been great,” Allen said. “The people who work for me are a great department and the people I work for have great experience. It’s just an opportunity for me, and for personal reasons, to be closer to some of my family.”
Allen, who started as Freeport’s fire chief on Oct. 31, 2017, listed the replacement of department turnout gear, the restructuring of the department’s administrative structure and the creation of a mobile integrated health program as the projects he was most proud of during his tenure.
