During Monday’s regular meeting of the Galesburg City Council, every single agenda item that required a voted sailed through with unanimous approval.
But one agenda item — City Manager Todd Thompson’s request to amend the starting salary schedules of the police and fire chiefs — met with some pushback from new Ward 7 Alderman Larry Cox.
Thompson got a change in the starting salary range for both chiefs — but not the changes he requested.
After a last-minute amendment from Cox, the starting salary for the police chief will range from $91,440 to $117,047 — what the city calls schedule “32 EX,” with the “EX” indicating the position is exempt from overtime wages.
The new starting salary range for the fire chief will follow what the city calls schedule “31 EX.” It will start at $87,034 and run through $111,407.
