VIDEO: A house fire in Zeigler took the life of three people Monday.
The Zeigler Fire Department responded to a house fire with people trapped inside at 611 Vaux Street, just after noon. Firefighters reported the home was fully engulfed in flames upon arrival.
Police officers from Zeigler and Christopher, along with Zeigler firefighters, attempted to enter the home to rescue any victims, but were unable to do so. Firefighters then began working to get the fire under control.
One woman was found outside of the home and was airlifted from the scene to a burn center.
Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler confirmed a total of three people died in the fire, one adult and two children.
At this time, the names of the victims are being withheld until identification can be confirmed and autopsies are pending.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
