A resident was displaced from their home in the 4000 block of Main Street after a fire broke out inside the house late Monday, causing considerable smoke and fire damage.
Fire crews were called to the home around 11:39 p.m. after a smoke alarm went off and woke up the resident. When they got to the scene, they found a "large amount of fire" coming from the back of the house, a news release said Tuesday.
Firefighters worked to put out the blaze outside the residence before heading into the building to extinguish the remainder of the fire. The Downers Grove Fire Department was helped by the village's police department, the Lombard Fire Department, York Center Fire Protection District and the Westmont Fire Department in battling the blaze.
