Several horses were reportedly inside a Lexington barn that that was destroyed by a fire Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters were called out to the area of Man o’ War Boulevard at Winchester Road for the large barn fire at about 3:30 p.m., fire Maj. Jordan Saas said.
There were reportedly eight horses in the barn, Saas said. The barn was not structurally stable, so as of Sunday night firefighters had not been able to get inside to confirm the number of horses.
The fire caused the roof of the barn to collapse, Saas said. Part of the barn was filled with hay and the hay was still burning as of about 8 p.m. Sunday.
Firefighters were expected to be at the barn overnight to watch for hotspots and hoped to have the heavy equipment needed to remove the burning hay by Monday morning, Saas said.
