At the Richmond City Commission meeting Tuesday evening, all the commissioners, with the exception of Mayor Robert Blythe, voted “yes” to approve the resignation of Richmond Fire Chief Robert Carmichael.
All of the commissioners voted to approve, except Mayor Blythe who said, “Madam clerk, if this is a gesture of gratitude for Chief Carmichael, let me vote no please.”
Carmichael submitted his resignation to the commission Jan. 31 of this year, after serving as the city’s fire chief for approximately a year and half. The resignation will become effective March 29, at which time Assistant Fire Chief Sam Kirby will step in as interim chief, until the commissioners appoint another.
In his resignation letter to the commission, Carmichael wrote, “I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Richmond, KY as their Fire Chief. It has been a blessing and an honor to serve and work for the City of Richmond.”
