Elizabeth town Community and Technical College was converted into a training ground this weekend as hundreds of firefighters from across numerous counties, including Breckenridge, Grayson, Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson and Washington, descended upon the campus to get training on a variety of subjects as part of Dixie Fire School. Dixie Fire School is hosted by the Dixie Firefighters Association, which consists of numerous regional paid and volunteer fire departments, and seeks to give firefighters training in a variety of subjects. “Whoever has the opportunity and wants to come, we try to just make sure they value what they come to E’town to do,” said Rusty Todd, State Fire Rescue Training Area 5 coordinator. Richard Peters, president of the Dixie Firefighters Association, said more than 600 firefighters were registered.
