A downtown emergency warning siren on the City of Henderson’s system will be taken out of service around March 18 while it is being replaced. Henderson Fire Chief Scott Foreman said the siren, located in the middle of the block near First United Methodist Church, was one of the older units in the system. He said it might take as long as two weeks to remove, reinstall the new siren and doing the testing on it. Henderson Fire Department received a grant for the replacement and installation of the warning siren. Sirens in the City and County have overlapping coverage so residents in the area should still be able to hear one upon activation, he said, but definitely not as distinctively as usual and perhaps not when inside a building. Foreman suggests that in the meantime until the siren can be replaced residents rely on a weather radio when severe weather is threatening.
