City and county firefighters worked together to rescue a man having a medical emergency while 30 feet in the air. Smith Mills Fire Chief Mike Coghill said the rescue occurred at Henderson Materials, off Old Geneva Road. A crane operator started experiencing a medical issue and couldn't safely exit the crane. "The problem was, it was a little crane with little ladder access," Coghill said. "He couldn't get out on his own." The fire chief said his agency didn't have the equipment needed for a high-angle rescue so the Henderson Fire Department also responded. With the assistance of the HFD ladder truck and firefighters, the man was safely moved into a "Stokes basket" and brought down, Coghill said. He was then airlifted to a hospital in Evansville.
