When Henderson County resident Jordon Herron deployed to the Middle East in September 2019 he was more excited than concerned.
The 22-year-old graduate of Henderson County High School and specialist in the Army National Guard said he was looking forward to the experience of working and living in another country.
"It was a great time. I made a lot of new friends, made a lot of memories, and had a lot of great experiences," Herron said. "I'm planning to stay in the National Guard ... I enjoy it and want to stay in as long as I can."
Through his service as a national guardsmen and as a volunteer firefighter for Corydon Civil Defense and the Smith Mills Volunteer Fire Department, it's in Herron's nature to try to help people.
With as much as he loves being a volunteer firefighter, he said, he would like to become a full-time firefighter with a city. He said he's applied for a full-time firefighter position, but regardless, plans to stay active with the county fire departments as well.
