On Saturday, Shreveport Firefighters were called to the 700 block of North Market at Shaw Alloy Piping for a possible industrial building fire. At 6:43 a.m., Shreveport fire got a call from workers at the facility. Thirteen fire units and 31 firefighters responded to the emergency. Firefighters say when they arrived, they saw smoke showing from a vent stack on top of the building. Workers told firefighters the fire was contained to a piece of machinery. The equipment on fire was a water scrubber used in the manufacturing process. The operator of the water scrubber had already started to shut the machine down before the fire department arrived. Firefighters were able to develop a plan to put out the fire with the help of plant personnel. Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishers were used to mitigate the fire. Firefighters say the fire did not spread from the machine. There were 30 employees working a six hour shift at the time of the fire. They all evacuated the structure without getting hurt.
