Four firefighters were sent to the hospital on Tuesday after battling a tugboat fire in Lafitte. The tugboat caught fire around 6:30 a.m. After five hours of battling the blaze, smoke could still be seen coming from the engine room of the tugboat. All four firefighters are doing well after suffering from heat exhaustion, according to the Lafitte fire chief. The engineer on board said the Susan Lynn caught fire around 6:20 a.m. while he was asleep. The engineer was the only person on board at the time of the fire. The fire chief said their initial concern was the tugboat exploding. Multiple agencies remain on the scene to cool down the hot spots. "We contained it but once that metal heats up and you're dealing with flammable liquids, if you don't cool it off enough it'll reintensify and keep reintensifying," said Linto Duet, fire chief.
