A family escaped safely from an explosion and fire at a Shreveport home Monday afternoon.
Shreveport firefighters were called with reports of heavy black smoke coming out of a home in the 800 block of Vernal Lane just after 3 p.m.
According to Chief Clarence Reese, the first fire crew arrived on the scene six minutes after being dispatched and extinguished the blaze from the interior of the structure while dealing with a gas leak.
Neighbors said they heard explosions before noticing the home on fire.
A man, woman, two children, and a dog were able to evacuate safely and no injuries were reported.
According to Battalion Chief Jackie Hutchinson, the home is uninhabitable and will be a total loss, due to the heavy fire damage.
Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire and explosions.
