Woman rescued from building fire in Pittsfield

Fire crews rescued a woman from a building fire at 1 Marlboro Drive in Pittsfield Monday evening. According to the Pittsfield Fire Department, at approximately 6:42 p.m., crews received reports of smoke emanating from the residence at 1 Marlboro Drive, with fire alarms sounding. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered challenging hoarding conditions, hindering their access to the inside of the house. Multiple units, including E6, E3, E1, Tower 1, and Car 2, along with additional off-duty firefighters, were mobilized to put out the fire. Despite the obstacles posed by the hoarding, responders worked tirelessly to locate and suppress the fire, which was concentrated in the kitchen on the first floor. Concerns were raised about a woman possibly trapped inside the residence, prompting firefighters to conduct a thorough search.

Follow Up: Child injured in east Boston fire dies, District Attorney says

A child who was injured in a fire in East Boston earlier this month has died, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said Tuesday. The incident occurred on April 2 at a multi-family building on Meridian Street. The fire also killed another person, the Boston Fire Department said. Their name wasn't immediately released. Four other people were rescued from the building, and one firefighter suffered minor injuries battling the flames. About 30 people were displaced. The close proximity of the houses caused the flames to spread to the house next door and the building in the back, officials said. Boston Fire Commissioner Paul Burke said the damage from the fire is estimated at $5 million for all three buildings. The fire remains under investigation.

Lakeville family displaced following house fire

A family has been displaced after a fire burned through their home in Lakeville, Massachusetts. Firefighters were called to a home on Bernards Way shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday when a neighborhood child saw flames from a window behind the house. Officials said a neighbor helped to contain the fire by spraying water into the window. Firefighters were faced with heavy smoke and zero visibility when they entered the home but were able to quickly put out the blaze, according to the Lakeville Fire Department. The family who lived in the home was not there at the time of the fire. The flames caused extensive damage leaving the family displaced. Residents of the neighboring townhome were also temporarily displaced because of the high carbon monoxide levels. The Red Cross helped the displaced family with secure shelter for the night, fire officials said.

High school students design signs for Lowell fire station

PHOTOS: Greater Lowell Technical High School students from the Computer Aided Drafting and Design, Carpentry, and Painting and Design programs combined their talents to create two new signs for the Lowell Fire Department’s West Sixth Street Fire Station. Lowell Fire Lt. Shawn Sirois, who works out of the West Sixth Street Station where Engine 6 and Ladder 4 are stationed, reached out to the school to inquire about having students replace the signs for the station, which had rotted. Superintendent Jill Davis thought it would be a great community project for the students to engage in and students and instructors in the CADD, Carpentry, and Painting and Design programs jumped at the opportunity. CADD students working under the direction of instructor Michael Stack helped design the initial logo and sign.
