Shortly after 10 AM Thursday, Yarmouth Fire Department received a 911 call for a house fire at 2 Saturn Lane, South Yarmouth. Multiple engines responded including an automatic mutual aid Ladder Truck from Dennis Fire Department. Crews arrived on location within three minutes to find the house filled with light smoke. The occupants had already evacuated prior to our arrival. Crews quickly found the source of the smoke, a light fixture at the bottom of the basement stairs had shorted and burned the surrounding area. Yarmouth Police shut down Long Pond Drive to protect firefighters working the scene. If not for the quick actions of the occupants, this fire could have been much worse. No injuries to occupants or firefighters. Investigators suspect the bulb in the fixture was too high a wattage for the fixture.
