A teenager was airlifted to Springfield following a horseback riding accident at Dry Brook Stables on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Bernardston Fire Chief Peter Shedd, the 17-year-old girl was taking riding lessons at around 2 p.m. in Dry Brook Stables’ arena, located at 265 Huckle Hill Road, when she lost control of the horse. The horse reared up, falling and rolling on top of the teenager.
Shedd said the patient’s mother was on scene. The teen remained conscious and alert, speaking with Shedd and other first responders as they assisted her.
“Her chief complaint was her upper left thigh and hip,” Shedd said. He added that there was “tenderness” in her abdomen, and officials were unsure of internal injuries.
