More than 50 cars have been trapped in a West Quincy after a dump truck fell through an upper level and landed on at least one car parked below.
The buildings at 229 and 234 Copeland St. were evacuated after the collapse around noon Wednesday but Deputy Fire Chief Edward Fenby said there were no reports of injuries. He said at least one car had been damaged but it was possible that two others may have been damaged as well.
“Right now we’re trying to keep the scene safe and keep everyone away,” Fenby said.
Fenby said the driver of the dump truck was in it when the floor collapsed but was not injured. In addition to the damaged cars, the dump truck has blocked access to 11 cars on the upper level and about 40 cars on the lower level, he said.
Judy Bergonzi, a dental assistant at Quincy Dental Associates, said that she was in the lab when she heard the truck fall and initially through the building’s elevator had collapsed.
