PHOTOS: Officials continue to investigate two separate fatal fires that occurred in less than two weeks.
The cause of neither fire has been determined. They are being investigated by the Springfield Fire Department Arson and Bomb squad and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, said Jennifer Mieth, spokeswoman for the state Department of Fire Services.
The names of the victims have not been released yet. It is the responsibility of District Attorney Anthony Gulluni to do so, she said. The first fire occurred at about 9 p.m., Nov. 23 in a vacant home on 125 Yale St. Neighbors told firefighters a possible squatter had been seen around the home so they pried plywood off doors and began an initial search of the burning building, but they were quickly called out of the house because of intense fire.
