Police officers and school administrators dominated the list of Marshfield’s highest-paid employees in 2018. The top 10 earners were eight police officers and two public school administrators, all of whom made more than $150,000.
A total of 71 town employees made over $100,000 last year: 19 school administrators, 45 members of the police and fire departments and seven town officials, according to federal payroll data released by the town. Only one town employee, a police captain who racked up nearly $70,000 in overtime pay, made more than $200,000.
Police Chief Phil Tavares said the large paychecks can be attributed to multiple things, mainly staffing issues in the department and retroactive pay for a 15-month period in which officers worked without a union contract.
