Onset Fire District officials announced that nomination papers for three seats will be available starting on March 4. The district’s election is scheduled for May 21. The Onset Fire District supplies water and fire protection to Onset while a separate Wareham Fire District performs the same function for the rest of the town. Both districts are separate from the Town of Wareham and each Fire District is overseen by an elected three-member Prudential Committee. The districts set water rates and allocate funds for the Fire Departments. There is one, three-year seat on the Prudential Committee and one, three-year seat on the Board of Water Commissioners. A one year seat as moderator will also be open. Currently, Marcine Fernandes holds the Prudential Committee seat and Kenneth Fontes holds the Board of Water Commissioners seat.
