The members of the Select Board on Tuesday appointed the members of a Fire Staffing Study Committee who will recommend major changes in the town’s fire department. Last week, Grafton Fire Captain Rick Allain pressed the board to finalize selecting the nine members. The report that recommended changes was released in February. On Tuesday, the board completed their selections for the volunteer committee by choosing Grafton call firefighters Nick Child (Station 2) and Bob Shumeyko (Station 3), along with Lt. Eric Matthieu (Station 1) to represent firefighters, and Allain (Station 3) and Capt. Bob Eagan (Station 2) representing the leadership on the committee. At an earlier meeting, the Select Board choose three candidates for members at large – Daniel Allain (resident), Roger Currier (retired firefighter) and Ray Mead (retired firefighter) – out of the five people who applied. All together, there is more than 100 years of firefighting experience on this volunteer committee that will be used to review the Grafton Fire Department Staffing Study by Municipal Resources, Inc.
