A fire has damaged a vacant three-story home on East Bartlett Street. The fire was reported at 7:06 p.m., Thursday. It damaged an older multi-family home at 1 East Bartlett St., police officials said. Firefighters had the blaze under control before 8 p.m., but remain at the scene checking for any extension of flames and ensuring the fire was completely extinguished. The home is currently unoccupied and was undergoing renovations at the time of the blaze, Fire Commission Chairman Albert Masciadrelli said. The Holyoke Fire Department is assisting at the blaze. The Southwick Fire Department is manning Westfield fire stations and handling any other calls in the city.
Masciadrelli said the commission was scheduled to meet to promote two members of the Fire Department to the position of captain when the fire began. Members left the meeting and went to the scene of the fire.
