Authorities said the baby and mother who were reportedly trapped inside the Stockholm Street home where Worcester Fire Lt. Jason Menard died Wednesday morning are recovering, according to a city spokesman.
Michael Vigneux, spokesman for the City Manager’s Office, said it is still unclear if the mother and child were rescued or if they escaped the home on their own. The mother has not been publicly identified by authorities. A woman was hospitalized after the four-alarm fire that broke out just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Vigneux said the child is OK but remains under observation.
When firefighters were called to the three-decker home, they received reports that a resident and baby were trapped inside on the third floor.
