Local and state authorities responded to a hazardous materials incident Sunday night on Salem Street following the discovery of containers of a crystalized substance along with a flammable substance. There were no reports of injuries and details on the potentially dangerous substances were not released as Groveland police and firefighters responded to Washington and Salem streets about 6:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a possible gas leak, according to a joint release from Police Chief Jeffrey Gillen and interim Fire Chief Joe Santapaola. Discovery of the substances at 748 Salem St. prompted local police and fire officials to declare a hazardous materials incident, leading to the dispatch of specialized state and regional units made up of firefighters and technicians with advanced training and equipment, the release said.
