A Hancock Lane family will need to find a different place to live for the next few days following a fire in the basement of their home on Wednesday, authorities said.
No one was injured in the 10 a.m. one-alarm fire at 8 Hancock Lane, Assistant Fire Chief Michael Dutcher said.
The Fire Department went to the home after a monitoring company reported a possible fire in the basement. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the basement windows, the assistant chief said.
Firefighters brought a hose into the finished basement and discovered a fire, which they quickly extinguished, Dutcher said.
“It appears that the fire started in an appliance in the basement,” said Dutcher. “It appears electrical.”
No one was at home at the time and no one was injured, he said.
