The Bourne Fire Department has received a $4,082 fire prevention grant to help collect data on local buildings that will help the department’s response in emergency situations. The grant came from FM Global, one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers. In a release announcing the grant, Acting Assistant Fire Chief David S. Pelonzi noted that, in the past 40 years, FM Global has contributed millions of dollars in fire prevention grants to fire service organizations around the world. The award will be used “to assist with pre-incident planning to efficiently collect and track data related to local community buildings,” Asst. Chief Pelonzi said. The information will help the fire department respond to emergency situations, he said. Michael Spaziani, assistant vice president and manager of the fire prevention grant program at FM Global, said the company strongly believes “the majority of property damage is preventable, not inevitable.”
