A space heater caused a mobile home parked off Pond Hill Avenue to go up in flames Sunday morning, destroying the building and injuring the lone occupant, according to a local fire official.
Amesbury Deputy Fire Chief Jim Nolan said the resident, a man in his 50s, sustained minor injuries and was treated at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport.
Firefighters arrived about 6 a.m. to see the 30-foot mobile home ablaze. With no hydrants nearby, water tankers from the Newbury and Newton, New Hampshire, fire departments were called to assist. Also at the scene were firefighters from Salisbury and an Atlantic Ambulance crew.
“Everybody’s fine,” Nolan said, referring to emergency responders.
An ambulance from Kingston, New Hampshire, and a Newburyport fire engine covered Amesbury fire headquarters during the blaze.
