Fire Lt. Jeffrey Wilson is retiring from the Sutton Fire Department with a new title--Fire Chief Emeritus.
Sutton select board members unanimously approved bestowing the honor on Mr. Wilson at their Tuesday meeting, Feb. 18.
Mr. Wilson said he was “speechless" to receive the honor, which he described as “unexpected and appreciated."
Mr. Wilson has reached the mandatory retirement age of 65 and is retiring from the department after 10 years of service to Sutton and 37 years on the Oxford Fire Department, where he served as chief.
“I wish to convey my deepest and sincerest thanks to the board for this honor," he wrote in a letter to the town.
Fire Chief Matt Belsito described Mr. Wilson as a “go-to guy" who he has always been able to count on.
“He’s been a shoulder for me to lean on," he said. “Jeff certainly deserves this honor."
