Clearly Onset’s a charming village with salt and fresh water amenities that are hard to match.
But it’s also got one of the top 25 rated fire departments in the state out of 377.
In fact, the Onset Fire Dept. is also rated one of the top 1,729 fire departments out of 39,850 nationwide.
Not bad for a small department.
That’s reason enough for residents to celebrate for the obvious safety factor but the high rating could also save them some money on insurance when it takes effect in September.
The Onset Fire Dept.’s rating climbed to a “2” in the latest assessment by the Insurance Services Office (ISO), which produces fire department ratings that can be used by the insurance industry to gauge how well a community is protected by its fire department. It’s a 1 to 10 rating with 1 being the top and rarely bestowed.
