A mother and her young child were rescued Monday from a house fire in Medford.
Firefighters were called at 2 a.m. to the home on Brookings Street.
Megan Lantanowich and her 4-year-old daughter said they were unable to evacuate their second-floor bedroom due to smoke and heat, officials said.
Lantanowich said her daughter, Sophia, woke her up for some water. They smelled smoke but thought it was a fire pit. Lantanowich said she opened her front door and realized they were trapped.
“In the moment it felt like forever. We waved something out the window so they knew exactly what window we were in, and they took her off the latter first, right out the window. Then they helped me out the window,” resident Megan Lantanowich said.
