VIDEO: Firefighters battled a 4-alarm blaze in Boston on Friday that spread to two adjacent buildings, a garage and a vehicle.
The fire started at 4:40 a.m. in a multi-family home at 24 Fairmount St. in the city's Dorchester neighborhood. The rear porches of the home collapsed as the fire tore through the building.
"The rear porches were fully involved, and they collapsed. It was a large amount of fire in a close area," Boston Fire Commissioner Jack Dempsey said.
The flames spread to 20 and 26 Fairmont St. and a garage at 28 Fairmont St., fire officials said.
“We heard the popping. It was actually glass breaking. It sounded like gunshots,” resident Kristen Handricken said. "It was just the windows." Nineteen people, including two children, were displaced by the fire.
There have been no reports of any injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
