There have been several reports of lightning strikes throughout Massachusetts Tuesday evening as severe thunderstorms moved across the state. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Suffolk, Norfolk, Worcester, Middlesex, Plymouth and Bristol counties for a brief period Tuesday evening. A resident of Georgetown says lightning struck her Lakeshore Drive home Tuesday afternoon and burned a hole in the roof. No serious injuries were reported. The fire chief in Webster confirms that a house fire started at about 4:30 p.m. when lightning struck the chimney and attic of a School Street home. The lightning blew the chimney apart and set part of the roof and attic on fire. The flames are now out and there are no injuries. In addition, a lightning strike in Norfolk sparked a fire at a home on Red Maple Run.
