The two people hospitalized in a fire in New Bedford's North End on Sunday afternoon remain in the hospital in serious condition, according to an update from the fire department. Three fire engines, two ladder trucks, and two other units responded to the fire, which was called in just after 3 p.m. on Sept. 19 at a three family dwelling at 269 Tinkham St. A post from the New Bedford Fire Department's Facebook page said that while crews worked to put out the fire, District Chief Brian Medeiros saw the woman and her young son yelling for help from a second floor window at the rear of the house. Lt. Charles Bailey and Firefighter Anthony Resendes of Ladder Co. 4 climbed a ground ladder and rescued the seven year old child and and his mother from the second floor. According to the post, the rescue was done within six minutes after crews arrived on scene.
