First responders in Montgomery County lined the roadways on Friday afternoon to honor a fallen hero en route to Arlington National Cemetery.
“As we would for a fallen police officer or firefighter, certainly a military veteran, we would want to pay our respects,” said spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, Pete Piringer.
Piringer says they aimed to have crews lined up at every overpass above the ICC along the route. “It shows the military that we are behind them 100 percent of the way. And we are thankful for the sacrifices they make every day,” said Lt. John Trawinski, with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.
Lt. Trawinski is a Marine Corps veteran and says honoring Capt. Mark Weber, who was killed in a helicopter crash in Iraq earlier this year, is important.
