One woman was transported to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for an evaluation following a small fire at her home in Cumberland on Saturday evening. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire broke out on the rear porch of a home at 14117 Merla Avenue. 25 fire fighters were dispatched to the scene, but the flames were out by the time they arrived. Residents and a neighbor used buckets of water to douse the flames. . Damage is estimated at $3,000 to the structure and $1,000 to the contents. Investigators says the fire was accidental due to improperly discarded smoking materials. The fire was contained to the back porch. No one was displaced.
