The cause of the fire could be linked to a crash into a tree on Jones Wharf Road, Hollywood, according to reports from First Responders and neighbors.
Steve Sherbert, a neighbor who originally reported the fire to 911, says he saw the homeowner smashing out windows, lighting objects on fire inside the garage, and could hear his vehicle speeding down the road shortly before the rest of the house caught fire. Several other neighbors report hearing a very loud boom following by a trail of thick black smoke coming from the home.
The homeowner was taken to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital after crash. He is currently suspected of starting the fire, according to an officer on the scene of the crash.
