A blaze gutted a house on a remote piece of property Wednesday afternoon, displacing a yet-to-be determined number of people who lived there, according fire officials. The fire dispatch came at 12:09 p.m., sending approximately 30 firefighters with eight volunteer fire companies, including two from Delaware, to the house on Brewster's Bridge Road, about a mile from the Appleton Road intersection, northeast of Elkton, fire officials said. Singerly Volunteer Fire Co. of Elkton served as the on-scene command unit, fire officials added. "The building was fully involved when we got here," said SVFC Deputy Chief Michele Ewing, adding that it took firefighters about one hour to bring the blaze under control. Because there are no fire hydrants in that area, firefighters drew water from a collapsible pool fed by tanker trucks, which were stationed on Brewster's Bridge Road.
