The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office has determined the cause of the fire that damaged a former church building in Smithsburg. The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office ruled the fire on Bradbury Avenue accidental. On Saturday, crews arrived to heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. Officials say the fire was under control within 30 minutes. They estimate the damage of the structure is about $165,000. There were no injuries and the homeowner was not home during the fire.
