Ocean City has a new fire department chief.
Richard Bowers was officially named as head of the resort's fire department, overseeing both paid and volunteer fire and emergency personnel. His appointment was confirmed by Town Council members during a meeting Tuesday.
Bowers replaces Chris Larmore, who announced in February he would be retiring from the department this spring.
Larmore had served as a member of the Volunteer Fire Company for 27 years, according to a town press release. In 2008, he was appointed to the position of fire chief, overseeing both the volunteer and career firefighters of Ocean City for the first time in the resort's history.
Bowers is longtime firefighter who has served in high leadership positions in both Montgomery County, Maryland, and Fairfax County, Virginia.
