VIDEO: Brandon Bolyard is a paramedic and firefighter here in Washington County. He was born with a very rare heart defect which has changed his life drastically in the past few weeks.
Bolyard has Tetralogy of Fallot, which there are fewer than 20,000 cases of a year.
This rare heart condition resulted in open heart surgery as a baby, and just last month, he had to have open heart surgery again.
Just over 200 procedures like this have ever been performed.
After the surgery, Bolyard had a heart attack and is still dealing with heart complications.
Brandon Bolyard said, "It's been difficult. Coming through the procedure I was supposed to be in and out, fixed and back to normal. Unforeseen circumstances, I ended up having a massive heart attack coming out of my surgery and we weren't expecting that. That threw the wrench in the socket."
These complications put Brandon out of work for at least 6 months, which was unexpected and financially hit their family very hard
