Fire detectives are crediting a burglar alarm and law enforcement officers for the quick response of firefighters to a kitchen blaze inside a restaurant early Wednesday morning, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal. Although damage from the blaze has forced the UnWined restaurant and wine bar in the 400 block of North Mauldin Avenue to close for business indefinitely, firefighters were able to contain the flames to the kitchen because the fire itself triggered motion detectors, which activated security system alarms that, in turn, prompted law enforcement officers to rush to the scene, fire officials reported. “We see this from time to time. The smoke, flames or embers will trigger the security system, and that is exactly what happened in this case. Although the burglar alarm activated, we do not believe there was any criminal activity,” said Sr. Deputy State Fire Marshal Oliver J. Alkire, an agency spokesman.
