Almost 70 firefighters from three states battled windy conditions Saturday to contain a commercial farm building fire west of Boonsboro, authorities said. No one was injured by the blaze at Thomas and Son Farms at 7206 Monroe Road, fire officials said. Maryland state fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze. The fire destroyed a roughly 10,000-square-foot commercial building, but firefighters saved the home, said Chris Thomas, part owner of the business. The family has a beef cattle operation, including breeding, and does excavating, construction and fence building. Incident commander Vern Wachter, deputy chief of the Rohrersville fire substation, said the first crew of three from the First Hose Co. of Boonsboro did an outstanding job saving the house. They put themselves between the fire and the house, and ensured there was water on the house, he said.
