A city man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly set fire to various items inside a Pear Street residence, according to the Cumberland Police Department. Shaun Aaron Brooks, 41, was taken into custody in the 200 block of Pear Street after Cumberland Police officers and city firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire. Brooks was found throwing items from a second-story window when officers arrived and found smoke coming from the dwelling. Smoke alarms inside the residence were reportedly activated when first responders arrived. Police found an open door at the rear of the property and then encountered Brooks as he continued to light objects on fire. Ordered to stop, Brooks failed to comply and struggled with officers who attempted to take him into custody. One officer was assaulted but did not require medical attention, police said.
