Anne Arundel Fire Chief Trish Wolford says this year’s class of new firefighters is now getting trained differently than past classes. She describes a recent conversation with that class, to WNAV Radio. The next set of graduates started their training two months ago. Now Wolford says, the first responders and field clinicians need to take the COVID-19 and the passing of contagions from a sick patient, to responders and others is top of mind. "I can say it was not an easy conversation just because you know they're mentally geared towards lets learn how to fight fires and let’s take care of broken legs. And, the reality of the world is we're dealing with a global pandemic. So, I really wanted them to analyze that this is what a life of service is. If this is something that is not compelling to you or you don't feel that you have the mental or physical aptitude or the heart to do something like this, then you know, now is a good time to reevaluate."
