The Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department, Naval District Washington Fire Department, Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department & Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad regret to announce the passing of George Walter Taylor. Walter joined the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department in 1988 at the age of 16 and held many officer positions over the years. He obtained his lifetime membership in 2017 and was currently serving as the Safety Officer at the time of his passing. Walter was also made Honorary Fire Chief in May of 2020. Walter was hired by the Naval District Washington Fire Department at Naval Air Station Patuxent River in August of 2000 as a firefighter and was later promoted to the rank of Fire Inspector in 2014 at the Naval Research Lab in Washington, DC. In 2015 Walter returned to Naval Air Station Patuxent River as a Fire Inspector and held that position until the time of his passing.
