7News is saluting first responders all week. Firefighters see their colleagues more like family than coworkers, but sometimes they are actually family. We're celebrating three generations of D.C. firefighters in the same family. G.K. "Bear" Mason became a D.C. firefighter in 1947. He worked on the D.C. fireboat then was assigned to Engine 16 where retired in 1968. He was an inspiration to his son-in-law Bill "Ace" Granger, who joined the Fire Academy to follow in GK's footsteps. Bill was an engine driver for more than two decades at Engine 28 before watching his son Kevin enter the academy. Although G.K. and Bill have had their "last call," Kevin continues the family tradition serving D.C. Fire & EMS at Engine 29.
