During the coronavirus pandemic, first responders have provided a range of services for communities, and in recognition of their contributions, the Heritage Society of Essex and Middle River held its second annual First Responders Appreciation Day on May 21 at the Essex Museum.
The event featured personnel from the Essex Volunteer Fire Department, the Baltimore County Police Department and the Maryland Transportation Authority, along with guest John Purkey, a retired Baltimore County firefighter who showcased his famed, festively decorated fire truck, “Purkey’s Party Pumper.” Dozens of community members stopped by to thank first responders and tour the museum.
“We thought this event would be a good way to pay respect back to the first responders who have been working really hard during the pandemic,” said Heritage Society president Lisa Harlow.
