A garage in Bangor was set ablaze by a lightning strike Sunday afternoon. According to the Bangor Fire Department, crews were called to respond next to a residence on Hammond Street around 4:50 p.m. for a report of a lightning strike. When crews arrived on scene, they found a fully-involved garage fire between two homes and called all hands to respond. Firefighters quickly contained the fire to the garage and knocked down the blaze. The owners were inside the nearby home at the time but were evacuated. "The homeowners were inside and the neighbors were inside -- within 20 feet of the strike -- and they all heard it and saw it," said Bangor Fire Department Assistant Chief Andrew Emery. "If you start to smell that smell, give us a call. Sometimes it doesn't catch on fire... but times like this, it was only a minute or two and that garage was fully involved."
